A Journey to Find Myself, ‘Sumsei Terrarium’
Sumsei is a brand that goes beyond simply bringing nature to you. It captures the sensations and memories of nature and embeds them into products so they can be encountered and recalled in everyday life. Beginning with its signature product, the “Body Dryer,” a device that gently dries the body after a shower, the brand primarily introduces products that are experienced with bare skin or bare feet.
To convey this philosophy and the strengths of Sumsei’s products, we designed an experiential exhibition space built around the narratives the brand unfolds. The space aims to break through the dull senses that fill our routines and gradually awaken them.
To awaken the senses is to recognize one’s body as the subject of perception, an ongoing process of realizing that we are constantly being redefined through sensation. Sumsei stimulates awareness from the tips of the toes, persistently reminding us of our own presence. This became the key element guiding our spatial interpretation of the brand.
The exhibition returns visitors to a state of “emptiness” at the entrance and progressively opens different senses on each floor, allowing them to build their own Layers of Sense step by step. Each floor incorporates its own spatial and temporal context, enabling visitors to naturally connect with Sumsei’s story while experiencing the interplay between sensation, space, and brand narrative.
